Tattoo's

Tat·too:  the act or practice of marking the skin with indelible patterns, pictures, legends, etc., by making punctures in it and inserting pigments. (Definition from Dictionary.com)

 Most people have seen a tribal tattoo, but don't even know the origin. Many African tribes tattooed using mallets and animal bone.  It was a very painful tattooing method that was (and still is!) a rite of passage. In prisons, prisoner's tattoo each other with a similar method, and it's also done for similar reasoning. Though they don't use the same material, in prisons a pen/pencil and a paperclip are used.

 Modern day technology has allowed us to find new and much less painful ways to ink skin. Thomas Edison invented an electric pen, and later on Samuel O'Reilly discovered this machine could be modified and used to tattoo. In the U.S. and most of the world that is the most common way to get inked.


 A lot of people see tattoo's as taboo, and destroying your body.  Tattoo's mean so much more to the people who do it. I am not saying there aren't people who get inked irresponsibly, but don't base your tattoo opinion off this. Why do people find tattoo's taboo? I am not sure...I am not one of those people. I have heard a few reasons, such as; your body is your temple, your body is perfect the way it is, or tattoo's are for criminals.


 I kindly disagree... I have a tattoo on my back and plan to get many many more. My body IS MY temple, so I should be able to decorate it how I want. Also you may tell me my body is perfect the way it is, but I don't agree. No, no I am not saying I think I'm ugly I am saying, I feel like the tattoo's belong there. They are symbols of who the person is, and what they have accomplished. Tattoo's are for criminals ?Criminals smoke, so if you smoke you're also a criminal. Stereotyping a WHOLE GROUP based on your small-minded bias is just silly. 


  People get tattoo's to show off who they are, and what they have accomplished. Tattoo's are an art-from, and a from of self expression. A lot of people do make mistakes and get stupid tattoo's but this is usually not the case.
